Jacques Couelle, the French architect who designed the Cala di Volpe, loves to be asked what it was before it became a hotel. It looks like a fifteenth century Italian castle, one of those rambling, unplanned buildings of truncated towers and spreading low-eaved roofs, desultorily pink-washed and pantiled, fitting the landscape as naturally as a rock. In fact it is one of the most luxurious and sophisticated hotels in Europe, perfectly created to match its setting along the bay of Cala di Volpe, inside and out offering an ever-changing kind of visual excitement and satisfaction. The food and service are marvellous and views out over the bay make it the most perfect place to stay.
All the interiors and the bedrooms are individually decorated and furnished with Sardinian antiques and fabrics.
Cala di Volpe has its own boutiques, hairdressers, tennis courts, water-ski school, Olympic size swimming pool, first class restaurant, pool-side barbecue and restaurant for lunch, piano bar and two other bars. A shuttle boat service is operated to the hotel beach further round the bay.
All 123 rooms and suites have private bath and shower and are air-conditioned with terrace or balcony. The hotel is 3 minutes by car to Pevero golf course and it has a private yacht harbour with moorings for small boats. There is a Presidential suite with private pool.
